Pillow Talking

Updated: Apr 2, 2020

So I'm risk averse. Ask the wife. I don't often buy on impulse, but something caught my eye during an impromptu distracted surf of the internet last week. You may have seen it. It started as an innocuous little sale ad in my feed, featuring a purported 93 year old tech magnate from Japan bizarrely strutting his buff stuff on the catwalk. He'd allegedly made his millions from stocks, shares and new technology investments but remained true to the basic idiom that we all need a decent nights sleep to function properly and effectively. This struck a chord with me and my usually interrupted and restless 6 hours if youre lucky son. His zeal for almost perfect sleep resulted in him investing his fortune into designing the most perfect pillow. I was rapt with his peculiar story and read on to learn that he'd been inspired by a band (or whatever the collective noun may be) of monks who slept soundly on various offcuts of timber whilst on pilgrimmage. Inspired by this knowledge, our man then spent several years perfecting and refining his pillow design. He found that the alignment between skull, neck and backbone allowed chi energies to flow much better around the body. After a week he found that he had so much extra energy and inner peace that he decided to impart his knowledge (and, undoubtedly, business savvy) to you. The customer. For £17.

I was hooked and before I knew it, I'd clicked away an order. Several days and uncomfortable nights later a package arrived from the Far East. The content was constructed from memory foam and was a deal smaller than your average pillow. It was beautifully sculpted and raised to allow the spine to align with the head and the neck. Does it work? Well, the firmness of the material took some adjusting to but did indeed become more comfortable after a couple of restless nights. It was certainly comfier I'd imagine than a piece of monk's timber. There is little room for movement once your head is cradled in its sculpted parts, but it is incredibly supportive. So much so that you can almost hear the chi joyfully running around. I no longer seem to wake with a stiff neck either.. I honestly think sleep is better and I do feel that I have (slightly) more energy upon waking in the morning. Would I recommend the pillow? Well. Yes. Be open to change. Don't compare with your old pillow. Give it some time and embrace the new you.

Be kind.
