A man who plugged his electric car into a charging point in Church Stretton, has somehow managed to drain the entire National Grid supply.
Local resident Barry Glee said “I always charge my car in the central car park on Thursdays. Its a Toyota Prius Hybrid if you must know and needs careful handling. I was wearing my driving gloves and only had it on charge for 16 hours when all the street lights in the town shut down. There was a distinct gurgling sound and I understand the rest of the country was plunged into darkness shortly afterwards. I think the big BMW at the next charger was to blame.”
E-ON, who were unavailable for comment, lost at a game of rock, paper, scissors with other energy groups and were therefore forced to turn out in inclement weather late in the evening. Although they managed to draft in supplies from the Co-op in order to keep the chippy going, the damage had already been done. A constant stream of tankers was spotted barrelling into the town on Friday morning.
However, this is not an isolated incident. Back in 2018, heavy usage of lottery terminals in the town created mayhem, with residents left without power for 14 minutes. In the aftermath, Diane Ward had to leave for work without her egg, while Reece Jenkins missed the second half of Coronation Street.
